This platform that urges for respect for migrants´ human rights said deportations continue despite the visit of a representative of the Haitian government to Santo Domingo.

On November 17 and 18, when the UN Special Envoy Daniel Supplice concluded his mission in Haiti, immigration authorities deported 400 people through the border posts of Ouanaminthe. Among deportees was a Health Sciences student from Cap Haitien, in the extreme north of the country, the GARR condemned.

Zanmi Timoun Foundation, on the other hand, deplored that since the beginning of the year, Dominican agents deported 214 unaccompanied children through official points.

In recent weeks, amid strained exchanges between the two countries, the number of Haitian deported grew and some denounced they were subjected to physical abuse, while women claimed to be sexually assaulted.

Santo Domingo, on the other hand, took some steps to crack down on immigration including the suspension of visa program for Haitian students and the prohibition of care for irregular citizens in public hospitals, as well as greater control at the border.
