Austria´s low enforcement estimated that 7,000 people protested against local measures, including the mandatory immunization against SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus as of February 2022.
Most of protesters wore no face masks, so it is a violation of measures implemented by the government.
A police spokesman said about 1,300 police officers were on duty and no major incidents were reported. Authorities expect a greater number of people in Vienna and in other cities as well.
Among those protesting were members of far-right and extreme-right parties and groups, including the far-right Freedom Party, the anti-vaccine MFG party and the extreme-right Identitarians.
The lockdown will start next Monday and will conclude for those immunized on December 13.
On Saturday, Austria reported over 15,200 infections (15,800 on Friday) and 42 deaths.
Since the beginning of the pandemic, nearly 12,000 people have diedy, according to the Ministry of Health.
