Born on May 29, 1993 in El Carmelo municipality on the border with Colombia, Carapaz made history at Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games by becoming the first Latin American cycling champion in the road test, after wining the Tour of Switzerland and getting the third place in the Tour de France.
The Jamaican athlete, for her part, ratified her status as an extraordinary sprinter at the event in the Japanese capital by wining the gold in the 100 and 200 meter races and making up the 4 x 100 relay team that finished first, in a year in which she was also winner of the twelfth edition of the Diamond League in the 100 meters.
Tokyo 2020 was also the games of recognition for the Cuban canoeing duo made up of Fernando Jorge and Serguey Torres, winners in the C-2 1,000-meter test with a record time of 3.24.995 minutes.
