North American Summit will seek a new approach for the future

Norteamérica, cumbre, futuro
Mexico, Nov 18 (Prensa Latina) The ninth North American Leaders Summit, which begins today in Washington, will be a corner stone for a new vision of the future in the region, the Mexican Foreign Ministry said in a press release.

The meeting between presidents Joe Biden, of the United States; Andrés Manuel López Obrador, of Mexico, and the Prime Minister of Canada, Justin Trudeau, will be preceded by bilateral meetings after which the tripartite summit will take place.

According to the statement, the dignitaries will seek solutions to the global situation and this intention will lead the three main points of the agenda: response to Covid-19, economic integration and joint vision to address migration.

The Mexican Foreign Ministry quotes its Secretary Marcelo Ebrard, who told journalists outside the Mexican embassy in Washington that during the trilateral or bilateral meetings, differences of position could arise on some issues.

One of them, he admitted, could be López Obrador’s electric reform initiative which, although it is not a topic planned for the meetings, if it is mentioned or there are questions, doubts will be clarify and Mexico’s position will be presented.

The release explains that in this ninth meeting there will not be the traditional joint press conference and instead a communiqué will be published in which the leaders will report on the resolutions agreed.

Ebrard confirmed in Washington that this will be President López Obrador’s first personal meeting with the Canadian Prime Minister.
