WTO Director highlights work for development

OMC Ngozi-Okonjo-Iweala
Geneva, Nov 15 (Prensa Latina) General-Director of the World Trade Organization (WTO) Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala on Monday claimed that development-related issues should take a key place in WTO´s work.

Trade is a pivotal engine for achieving economic growth and poverty reduction and, ultimately, for development, Okonjo-Iweala stresse.

At a meeting of the WTO Committee on Trade and Development (CTD), Ms. Okonjo-Iweala praised the paramount role for development, she said.

In this regard, she stated that CTD plays a key role in tackling down on development dimension in the multilateral trading system.

Likewise, Ms. Okonjo-Iweala stressed that WTO´s work is critical for developing and least developed countries, and that her organization addresses issues important to them.

Ultimately, our work at WTO must have a real impact on people’s lives and produce real benefits, especially for the poorest countries, she stressed.
