Latin America sees steady rise of commercial flights

Panama-Tocumen-airport
Ottawa, nov 14 (Prensa Latina) Commercial flights in Latin America have recovered 76% from pre-pandemic levels, the International Council of Latin America and Caribbean Airports (ACI-LAC, in Spanish) reported on Sunday.

Latam Airlines, Azul, Volaris, GOL and Aeromexico represent the top five airlines that operated the most seats during October compared to 2019 levels.

Approximately 74 percent of the capacity offered corresponds to domestic flights and 26 percent to international operations.

The latest ACI-LAC report also notes that a total of 1,667 aircraft restarted operations in the region, 447 aircraft more than a year ago.

The airports with the highest traffic were those of Sao Paulo, Mexico City, Bogota, Cancun and Brazil’s Viracopos.

It is clear that airlines and airports serving countries with fewer travel restrictions have performed better, for example in Mexico, said Juan Gonzalez, Latin America Business Development Manager for the consulting firm Cirium, co-author of the document.

ACI-LAC represents more than 270 airports in 34 countries and territories, which handle 95 percent of commercial air traffic in Latin America and the Caribbean, handling more than 570 million passengers, 5.4 million tons of cargo and more than nine million aircraft movements each year.
