Vitrina de Valonia connects Cuban and Belgian cultures

Cuba, Bélgica, Vitrina de Valonia
Havana, Nov 9 (Prensa Latina) The Vitrina de Valonia, a reference center for comic strips in Cuba, on Tuesday connects Havana and Brussels through the international colloquium taking place during the 16th Belgian Culture Week in this city.

The theoretical event called “Heritage, comics and fiction” joins the celebrations for the 502nd anniversary of the founding of Havana and becomes a tribute to its outstanding Historian Eusebio Leal Spengler.

The participation of Belgian artist Etienne Schreder and Cubans Orlando Inclan, Mercedes Herrera, Alexander Izquierdo, Argel Calcines and Lysbeth Daumont, who will speak on the subject and its development at the international level, stands out.

Founded in 2006, the Vitrina de Valonia promotes the comic strips art as an exponent of the Belgian heritage and an element of strong tradition in Cuba, as of a cooperation agreement between the Office of the Historian of the Havana City and the European region.

The cultural center has a library specialized in comic strips, the only one of its kind in Cuba, with more than 2,500 titles dedicated to that artistic expression from Europe, Latin America and Asia, as well as other publications created in favor of the graphic narrative in the island and its artists.
