Vietnam’s president to participate in Asia-Pacific economic forum

Hanoi, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) President Nguyen Xuan Phuc will represent Vietnam at the 28th Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Economic Leaders' Summit, to be held in New Zealand on November 11-12, it was informed in Hanoi on Friday.

Xuan Phuc’s participation responds to an invitation by New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Ardem.

Virtually and with Wellington as a center because New Zealand holds the rotating APEC presidency, the meeting will advocate for strengthening free trade and multilateralism amid the complex scenario due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

The heads of State and Government, or the senior officials designated by them, are also expected to coordinate actions to jointly address an epidemiological situation that has a profound impact on the member economies.

They are Australia, Brunei, Canada, Chile, China, South Korea, the United States, Philippines, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Mexico, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, and the Chinese territories of Taiwan and Hong Kong.

Its 21 member economies account for 59 percent of global Gross Domestic Product and 48 percent of world trade.
