AAP experts recommend a better gum care

encias-saludables
Washington, Nov 5 (Prensa Latina) Gum care is of great importance to human beings, and its neglect can cause tooth loss, diabetes, heart diseases and Alzheimer's disease, the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP) revealed.

According to the scientific institution, the gum impairment also leads to bleeding and bad breath.

Good oral hygiene is critical to control the bacterial plaque levels, so brushing should be done at least twice a day, being the one before going to bed the most important.

People must know how to handle their toothbrush to avoid retractions due to mechanical trauma.

“Bruxism, a nervous habit that triggers teeth grinding, can also cause mechanical overload on the gum causing retraction,” experts warned.

Individuals must control spaces between teeth, avoiding food accumulation that favors gingival inflammation.

“The good condition of gums is important since it is a highly vascular tissue and, therefore, an entry way into circulatory flow of possible pathogens to the rest of the body,” experts said.
