Courier companies stop service between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia

Beirut, Nov 4 (Prensa Latina) The courier companies DHL and FedEX suspended or reduced from today their services between Lebanon and Saudi Arabia as part of a diplomatic crisis caused by statements of the Lebanese Minister of Information.

DHL stopped its inbound and outbound shipments from both countries, while FedEX will only send documents.

Last Friday, Riyadh withdrew its ambassador in Beirut, gave a 48-hour deadline for his Lebanese counterpart to leave the kingdom and cancelled all imports from the so-called cedar nation.

Bahrein and Kuwait adopted similar measures, while the United Arab Emirates summoned its diplomats in Lebanon.

Such decisions were taken in reaction to statements by Lebanese Minister George Kordahi, who called the war in Yemen absurd and that the Houthi rebels face a Saudi- and Emirati-led aggression.

Since March 2015, a Riyadh-led coalition intervened in the poorest of Arab countries in order to back up the Yemeni government, following its 2014 overthrow by the Houthis.

Kordahi’s comments worsened relations with Arabian Peninsula nations, especially the Saudis which censure the alleged control of the Lebanese executive by Hizbulah, which it classifies as a terrorist group.
