We must overcome the circumstances, we have to lead our lives according to the reality so that our problems can be solved soon, Ahmed declared in a message to the people.
On Tuesday, Justice Minister Gedion Timothewos announced that the Council of Ministers, in a special session, decided to establish a state of emergency to protect the people from the criminality of the Tigray People’s Liberation Front (TPLF).
About the measure, imposed with immediate effect, any person suspected of having a strong relationship with the TPLF can be detained without an arrest warrant.
Since November 4, 2020, the Government has been engaged in an armed confrontation in the northern state against the TPLF. This group has been accused of violating human rights, among other crimes, and has been declared terrorist by Parliament.
In June, the Front took advantage of a government armistice to return to the territory and, in addition, to extend its conflict to the regions of Afar and Amhara.
