London, Nov 3 (Prensa Latina) More than 80 countries pledged to cut methane emissions (the most potent greenhouse gas) by 2030, the gas responsible for nearly 30% of global warming since industrial revolution.

“Methane is one of the gases that we can cut the fastest,” the European Commission Head Ursula Von der Leyen said ahead of the 26th COP26 Climate Summit held in Glasgow, Scotland.

The United States announced to take steps on fighting greenhouse gas methane, much more powerful than carbon dioxide.

The US measures to deal with methane are largely focused on oil and gas sector, which is responsible for 30% of the country’s methane emissions.

Washington also announced a proposal that will go into effect in 2022 to regulate methane from abandoned and uncapped oil and gas wells, as well as other unregulated sources.
