Sri Lanka and Cuba discuss expansion of sports collaboration

Colombo, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Minister of Youth and Sports of Sri Lanka, Namal Rajapaksa, and Cuban ambassador here, Andrés González, discussed the expansion of bilateral sports exchange, as disclosed today in this capital.

The also member of Sri Lankan Parliament and the Cuban representative specially addressed the training of high-performance athletes in the Caribbean country and the sending of coaches to the Asian island nation, a diplomatic source indicated.

The traditional bilateral sports collaboration shows a significant number of Sri Lankan students trained in Cuba and resulting in graduates in Physical Culture and Sports.

In addition, Cuban coaches offered their services here to help improve athletes’ performances.

Also present at the interview were Major General Palitha Fernando, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Athletics Commission, as well as I.M. Ranasinghe, graduated in Cuba and specialist in athletics at Kelaniya University.
