Colombia finalizes details to participate in COP26

Bogota, Oct 29 (Prensa Latina) Colombia is giving the final touches to its participation in the 26th edition of the Annual Conference on Climate Change (COP26), the most important climate summit of the year, the Environment Ministry confirmed today.

According to this portfolio, the country intends to be climate resilient by reducing its greenhouse gas emissions and adapting to climate change by 2050. Colombia will present at COP26 eight environmental strategies to achieve these objectives, such as Biodivercities, which effectively and comprehensively incorporates local and regional biodiversity in its regional planning, as an essential axis and instrument of its socioeconomic development, among others, the Ministry added.

In addition, Leticiaś Pact, in which countries with territory in the Amazon, assume commitments related to the preservation and sustainable use of natural resources and biodiversity, it added.

This pact, signed by Bolivia, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador, Suriname and Guyana, also envisages the creation of a network to face disasters and promote initiatives for the recovery of ecosystems affected by forest fires and illegal activities, and promotes financial mechanisms for the implementation of the commitments made.

Under the slogan Uniting the world to confront climate change, COP26 will bring together leaders from 197 countries from November 1 to 12 in Glasgow, Scotland, who will present and establish concrete results and commitments that will contribute to curbing the climate crisis the world is facing.
