He explained to the press that Moscow’s priorities at Wednesday’s meeting will focus on the economic development of the region, the fight against Covid-19, its consequences, as well as the strengthening of trade and tourism exchange.

According to organizers, the event will be held via videoconference and will be opened by the Sultan of Brunei, Hassanal Bolkiah, the country that holds the presidency of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN).

Peskov explained that at the summit with ASEAN, Putin should refer to the Covid-19 impact on economic relations over the past two years and possible options for reversing that situation, and increasing cooperation among the member countries.

‘The potential is solid and, most importantly, both the countries of the partnership and Russia itself are extremely interested in expanding ties,’ the Kremlin press chief highlighted, who warned that at the meeting Russia will celebrate the 30th anniversary of relations with the Organization.

He indicated the presidents will review three decades of cooperation, assess ways to expand exchange in the political, economic and humanitarian areas, and share views on the situation in the Asia-Pacific region.
