Covid-19 expected to expand rapidly in Germany in autumn

Berlin, Oct 22 (Prensa Latina) The Robert Koch Institute of Virology (RKI) warned of a foreseeable increase in Covid-19 cases in the country for autumn and winter, a trend identified since the end of September.

The accumulated incidence in the last seven days shows 95.1 new infections per 100,000 inhabitants in seven days, a figure higher than that of the week before that and which also exceeds that shown on the same date last year.

The report of the RKI, the body in charge of the control of infectious diseases, indicates that during the second pandemic outbreak in early 2021, the most affected age group was that of over 80 years of age, with the current incidence higher among minors and young people.

According to the institution, the cases reported in medical facilities, residences and assistance centers increased considerably as of October 11th compared to the previous week.

69.1 percent of the German population has already received at least one dose of some vaccine against the disease, while 66.1 percent have completed the cycle.
