Russia considers that NATO has ended bilateral relations

Rusia vocera cancilleria
Moscow, Oct 21 (Prensa Latina) Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday that the North Atlantic Treaty Organization NATO) brought bilateral relations to the worst state in history.

‘The North Atlantic bloc and its secretary general, Jens Stoltenberg, have personally sought glory. They have simply plunged our relations into a state in which we were not even been during the hardest times of the Cold War,’ she said.

Speaking to the press, the Russian official stressed that in such conditions, working with the Alliance… on challenges and threats to regional and global security is impossible and makes no sense.

Zakharova pointed out that with its actions, the head of the military bloc has buried the Russia-NATO Council.

On Tuesday, Russian Presidential Spokesman Dmitry Peskov pointed out that the breaking off of relations with the Atlantic Alliance does not mean anything for the country because there was no relationship.

Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov informed on Monday that Moscow had suspended the work of its permanent mission in NATO since early November 2020, following the bloc’s decision to revoke the accreditation of eight of its employees in Brussels.

He explained that in the same way, the activities of the Military Liaison Mission and the NATO information office in this capital will be cancelled.

On October 6, the leadership of the military bloc informed that it would reduce Russia’s mission in the organization from 20 to 10 people.

It also suspended the accreditation of eight diplomats and eliminated two other vacant posts. It also gave Russian diplomats until the end of October to leave the Belgian capital, where NATO’s headquarters is located.
