A dozen people were injured and 11 others are still missing, while damage to homes and roads is reported, Zee News reported.

Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami toured the areas affected by the rainfall and announced compensation for the families of the victims.

Some areas were cut off and telephone and internet facilities were disrupted at several places, NDTV news channel said.

A total of 15 teams of the National Disaster Response Force were deployed for relief operations in the northern Indian territory.

More than 300 people were rescued so far from the flood-affected areas, the Press Trust of India reported.

Rainfall in Uttarakhand is expected to subside from Wednesday, the India Meteorological Department told The Indian Express.

However, the south is likely to be affected by downpours in the coming days, experts warned.
