Russia believes break with NATO has no implications

Moscow, Oct 19 (Prensa Latina) Russia's presidential spokesman, Dmitri Peskov, said today that severing of relations with the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) has no implications for the country because there was no relationship.

‘It is not riddled with anything. There was nothing to break, there was no relationship,’ Peskov replied to the press when asked about the issue.

The country will not ‘suffer from this because there was never a dialogue with NATO,’ he said, according to the TASS news agency.

This Monday, the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, Sergey Lavrov, reported that Moscow suspends the work of its permanent mission to NATO as of November, following the decision of the Alliance to revoke the accreditation of eight of the members of its legation in Brussels.

He explained that in the same way the activities of the Military Liaison Mission and the NATO information office in the Russian capital will be canceled.

On October 6, the leadership of that military bloc reported that it would reduce the mission of the Eurasian nation before the organization from 20 to 10 people.

Similarly, it suspended the accreditation of eight diplomats and eliminated two other positions that were vacant. In addition, it gave Russian diplomats until the end of October to leave the Belgian capital, the headquarters of NATO.
