On its official Twitter account, the Foreign Ministry recalled the anniversary, at a time when both countries are betting on strengthening their ties in the field of research, vaccines and pharmaceutical products.

In June 2021, Kenyan Health Minister Mutahi Kagwe learned about the progress in the fight against the Covid-19 pandemic during a visit to the National Center for Scientific Research (CNIC) in Havana.

The meeting led to dialogue on the five vaccine candidates developed by Cuban scientists to prevent the disease, caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus: Abdala (CIGB-66), Soberana 02 and Soberana Plus, which are already vaccines.

As part of that visit, Kagwe and Cuban Health Minister Jose Angel Portal signed agreements for the provision of services, training and the training of doctors from that African nation.

In addition, President Miguel Diaz-Canel received Kagwe at a meeting in which both leaders highlighted the positive state of relations between the two countries.
