Díaz-Canel praises Ministry of the Armed Forces of Cuba

Havana, Oct 17 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel today recognized the historical trajectory of the Ministry of the Revolutionary Armed Forces (Minfar), on the 62nd anniversary of its founding, celebrated this October 16, 1959.

‘My congratulations and recognition to the revolutionary history of that efficient and steadfast ministry,’ the President wrote on his Twitter social network account, about the work of the institution in charge of ensuring the country’s and the population’s defense preparedness.

The approval of Law 600 in October 1959, just months after the triumph of the Revolution, dissolved the former Ministry of National Defense and created MINFAR in the Caribbean nation.

Since its foundation, Army General Raúl Castro was appointed minister, a position he held until 2008, when he became president of the Councils of State and Ministers of Cuba (2008-2018).
