Cuba expands cooperation, business opportunities with Eurasian bloc

Minsk, Oct 14 (Prensa Latina) Cuban President Miguel Diaz-Canel on Thursday told the meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council through a virtual speech that his country provides broad opportunities for joint cooperation on several sectors of sustainable development.

Diaz-Canel explained that strengthening the use of renewable energy sources is a priority for the Caribbean nation.

In this sense, he highlighted that the first steps of the collaboration could be aimed at exchanging experiences and good practices in setting up, managing and developing wind energy and solar farms, as well as the use of other energy sources.

The head of State pointed out that the tourist sector is another area with great potentialities for joint work, demonstrated by recent experiences with Russia, which has become the first tourist-sending market to Cuba in recent months.

Diaz-Canel stressed that as of November 15, when more than 90 percent of the Cuban population will be vaccinated according to government forecasts, the country’s borders will gradually open, and the sanitary and hygienic protocols for the arrival of travelers will be eased.

The Cuban statesman warned that food production is a country’s priority as well, in need of achieving food sovereignty.

Diaz-Canel also called to encourage interbank relations, not only between the central banks of Cuba and the Eurasian market countries, but also among commercial banks, and also between the Central Bank of Cuba and the Eurasian Development Bank.
