Through Twitter, Arce analyzed that ‘now Bolivian foreign trade operators will have discounts of 42 percent and 65 percent in cargo dispatch through the (Chilean) port of Arica.
State-run Administration of Port Services Bolivia (ASP-B) and the Chilean private Terminal Puerto Arica recently reached an agreement that in the next three years would lower service rates by 42 percent for Bolivian exporters and importers.
Deputy Minister of Tax Policy, Jhonny Morales, said the pact brings ‘certainty in the medium term’ to foreign trade operators, and added that before concluding the three-year term, negotiations will be reactivated to return to the issue of tariffs and port services, according to press reports.
Bolivian exporters mainly use the port of Arica for import and export, and according to the 1904 Treaty, ‘the Republic of Chile recognizes in favor of Bolivia and in perpetuity, the broadest and free right of commercial transit through its territory and Pacific ports’.
ASP-B executive manager, Dante Justiniano, explained that this agreement improves a previous one signed in 2019, and will be valid for three years, from September 1, 2021 to the same period in 2024; according to ‘Opinion’ newspaper.
