The lava reached temperatures of 1,240 degrees Celsius and engulfed the few buildings that remained standing in Todoque, one of the devastating consequences of the Cumbre Vieja volcano since it began its eruptions on September 19.

The Volcanological Institute of the Canary Islands (Involcan) and the Cabildo of La Palma reported there were no other incidents despite the explosions during the last 24 hours.

The authorities are maintaining special security measures to prevent residents of the affected areas from trying to return to their homes, in the hope of rescuing some of their belongings, something that is very dangerous at present.

However, evacuated residents with property outside the security perimeter will be allowed to enter to collect clothes and belongings.

The European satellite system Copernicus indicated that the lava flows destroyed more than 1,186 buildings and 497 hectares.

A few days ago, the Spanish Council of Ministers passed the Royal Decree Law with urgent measures to support the victims of the volcanic eruptions in La Palma. The decree is also aimed to cover the repair of the damages and to help with the economic and social reconstruction of the island. Likewise, the central administration will release more than 213 million Euros in order to give a proper response to the crisis.

According to a press release from the Moncloa, measures are approved in two branches: direct help and subventions, which will contribute to mitigate damages in infraestructure, housing and environment.
