Cuba pediatric Covid-19 case toll decreases

Havana, Oct 8 (Prensa Latina) Cuba´s toll of children, adolescents and young people reported with Covid-19 in October, compared to September, has decreased, according to Lissette López, head of the National Pediatric Group.

Daily Covid-19 indicators have improved, with only 2,987 minors under 18 years of age reported positive on Friday, but definitive control still requires family´s responsibility in complying with deep-rooted measures, Dr. López said.

López laid stress on discipline and individual protection, despite the ongoing vaccination campaign, and also recalled that the 0-to-2-year-old group does not meet the requirements for such a process.

She also stated that nearly two million children have received the first of two shots of Soberana 02 and also the clinical study in Havana and Cienfuegos for coronavirus-infected children with Soberana Plus, both vaccines designed by the Finlay Vaccine Institute.

Dr. López described immunization campaign as pivoyal, while about 600 children, teens or young people are still reported with Covid-19.

In a TV briefing, Dr. López warned about the incidence of other viral and bacterial diseases in the country, while illustrating the increased dengue cases in examples.

Cuba has reached a total of 911,377 confirmed Covid-19 cases since March 11, 2020, 166,319 of them are under 18 years of age (nearly 18%).
