In statements to the Vietnamese News Agency (VNA), the diplomat commented that his country is interested in placing a greater volume of goods in this market, especially beef, and receiving electronic components, rubber, fruits and coffee.
He also proposed to increase Vietnam and Uruguay’s participation in international fairs organized by both countries, as they open markets and promote investments in their respective regions.
Regarding the recent proposal by Vietnamese President Nguyen Xuan Phuc, to favor the access of Vietnam’s products to the Southern Common Market, he commented that the possibilities depend on increasing businesses with the South American bloc and the gradual elimination of tariff barriers.
Pollak also asked Vietnam to open an Embassy in Uruguay. At present, the Vietnamese Ambassador to Argentina is also Ambassador to Montevideo.
He spoke out for increasing parliamentary, cultural, sports and, in general, people-to-people contacts.
Uruguay and Vietnam established diplomatic relations on August 11, 1993, and their commercial exchanges are currently around 100 million dollars.
