The formula by the ruling coalition implies a reallocation of some 30 million dollars previously assigned to the INC for the relocation of settlements, and 15 millions in compensation for the acquisition of land for rent to rural families.

Broad front senator Alejandro Sánchez pointed out that the INC ‘ends up losing’ funding derived from the collection of taxes that will become a trust for the irregular suburban settlements, a social problem that requires around 1,2 billion dollars.

The opposition group reiterated their position in the Finance Committee, which approved by a government majority the budget Accountability project that will be brought to the plenary session of the House of Representatives next Monday.

On the other hand, the Association of officials of the National Institute of Colonization (Afinco) also rejected the agreement, thereby warning that the possibility for new settlers to gain access to land will be lost.

‘Rural salaried workers and small family producers, non-settlers, will thus lose any hope of accessing land, in a context of a new rise in the price of raw materials, which is driving a new upward push in the price of land, as already seen’, a statement indicated.

It criticized that ‘after weeks of mobilization, thousands of workers, settlers, those hoping to be settlers, family producers and organizations were not listened to’.
