Venezuela intensifies Covid-19 vaccination campaign

Caracas, Oct 4 (Prensa Latina) The Venezuelan Government is intensifying as of Monday the vaccination campaign against Covid-19, with the aim of immunizing 70 percent of the population in late October.

During a report of the pandemic situation, Executive Vice President Delcy Rodriguez informed that people aged 18 years and older could go without prior appointment to any of the centers set up in the national territory for the administration of the vaccines against the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Rodriguez assured that Venezuela has the necessary doses to guarantee compliance with the first stage of the immunization process, while specific cases requiring reinforcements against the viral disease are being assessed.

In turn, President Nicolas Maduro indicated that the health authorities are designing the protocols to start vaccinating children aged two years and older, included assessing the effectiveness of a vaccine manufactured in China for that population sector.

Maduro also announced the arrival in the country of a new batch of 900,000 doses of Cuban vaccine Abdala (CIGB-66), with the purpose of strengthening the national immunization plan in the Venezuelan territory.

Since the pandemic broke out, the Venezuelan Government has accumulated 373,332 contagions, 354,820 patients have recovered from that virus and 4,510 people died due to complications related to the disease.
