We think that ‘there is still a chance that a pragmatic approach will prevail and the United States will cooperate with Russia to find balanced and mutually acceptable solutions,’ Riabkov noted during a discussion at the Center for Security Policy in Geneva, Switzerland. He assured that his country has already presented a detailed vision of what it would be desirable to achieve as a result of bilateral talks on the issue, according to TASS news agency.

Riabkov said that the main goal is to jointly develop a ‘new security equation comprising the key factors of strategic stability.’

About the results of the talks held on Wednesday in Geneva, he noted that both delegations agreed that the consultations should serve to level bilateral relations in the strategic sphere.

The Russian deputy foreign minister noted that they would also help to ensure predictability, prevent the arms race, strengthen arms control and reduce the risks of military conflicts.

On that basis, he said, it remains to be demonstrated in reality that Washington is willing to change its destabilizing path and pursue such ambitious goals through an equitable dialogue.
