Mexico adjusts anti-Covid-19 vaccine for teenager

Mexico City, Sep 29 (Prensa Latina) The Mexican Health Secretariat today adjusted the method for immunization with Pfizer for minors between 12 and 17 years old with any of the 44 classified diseases that put them at risk of being infected by Covid-19.

The Secretariat points out that these are hereditary conditions, birth abnormalities, cardiac pathologies, diabetes and morbid obesity grade three, HIV/AIDS, transplants, Down syndrome, autism, mental retardation or situations related to teenage pregnancy, among others distributed in nine sections.

Operational planning corresponds to each federal institution outside the health system but linked to it, such as the military secretariats, Pemex and others.

The advisory group suggested maintaining vaccination units in each clinical center on a permanent basis and using an appointment method based on a pre-registration of inoculation in which the population must register as belonging to the risk group.

At each vaccination site there will be professional staff to verify the vaccination indications for teenagers who are not in the institutional census.

The authorities decided to use Pfizer’s BNT162b2 vaccine which, to date, is the only vaccine platform in Mexico that has demonstrated safety and immunogenicity in 12 year-olds and older, and has the approval of the specialized Federal Commission.
