US infrastructure bill vote postponed

Washington, Sep 27 (Prensa Latina) The US House of Representatives postponed the vote on the bipartisan infrastructure bill to Thursday, Speaker Nancy Pelosi announced in a communique on Monday.

After some few weeks of debates between liberal and moderate Democrats and Republicans, without reaching an agreement on the content of the bill that should have been voted on this Monday according to a Pelosi’s promise, the majority leader announced its postponement.

Apparently, there is no agreement, even on Sunday, the official pointed out in her appearance on ABC’s ‘This Week’ program. It seemed evident that the final price of the Democrats’ spending plan would be less than 3.5 trillion dollars originally proposed.

The postponement came as part of an agreement reached with moderate Democrats to deal with the vote.

A busy week is anticipated in Congress as October 1 approaches, date in which the funds for the current fiscal year ends. If a continuing resolution fails, it could lead to an unpaid debt and a governmental shutdown.

Last week, the House of Representatives passed a bill, according to the parties’ guidelines, to fund the Government through December 3, as well as suspend the debt limit through December 2022, something the Republicans are not happy with.
