During the meeting, held at Pabellon Cuba, in Havana, Alonso urged to achieve better results, promoted a greater interweaving with peripheral areas and the defense of the Revolution from the trenches of art.

There is an immense field of work in the community. It is urgent to strengthen cultural work in the face of the country’s current ideological challenges. Today more than ever, President Miguel Diaz-Canel is calling to improve the methodologies and impact of culture on Cuba’s social life, the minister said.

For their part, the members of the brigade spoke about their difficulties and concerns in terms of the systematic contribution despite Covid-19, an epidemiological circumstance that enhanced the educational workshops through virtual channels and networks.

At present, the movement, which is carrying out over 300 projects across the country, community activities and workshops, is working in vaccination and day-care centers, where they are creating artistic initiatives for children, teenagers and adults.

From Havana, several representatives favored the inclusion of a contemporary language in the so-called Casas de Cultura (Community Cultural Centers) and highlighted the willingness of Cuban authorities to improve the offer and the cultural transformation of neighborhoods such as El Fanguito.

Sixteen years after its foundation, the Jose Marti Brigade seeks to increase its socio-cultural impact across the country and meet the goals outlined since its foundation by Commander-in-Chief Fidel Castro.
