Rusia rejects Turkish disregard of elections in Crimea

Moscow, Sep 21 (Prensa Latina) Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov on Tuesday expressed Russia's rejection to the Turkish decision to disregard the results of the elections to the State Duma (Lower House of Parliament) in the Republic of Crimea.

He stated that Ankara is Moscow’s partner and the existence of important issues on which the two nations disagree should not be an obstacle to the development of bilateral relations and the exchange on regional issues.

Earlier, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova told Soloviev Live YouTube channel that her country will pay special attention to the statement by the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs on the votes held in the Russian Republic of Crimea.

Turkish Foreign Minister spokesman Tanju Bilgic said on Monday that the results of the elections held in Crimea between September 17 and 19 ‘have no legal validity for Turkey.’

He noted that in every election of the country, Crimea has ratified the decision expressed during the 2014 referendum, when more than 96 percent of the voters approved the reunification of the Republic with Russia.
