Torkham was the busiest crossing between the two countries, but since last month it has experienced an important decline in pedestrian crossings, due to strict measures imposed by the Taliban movement, Ariana news agency reported on Friday.

In August, the Taliban regained power, 20 years after being overthrown by an invasion led by US forces, following the terrorist attacks in the United States on September 11, 2001.

Afghan citizens, stranded at the border crossing, told local media that they wanted to leave due to the uncertain situation in their country.

Meanwhile, Taliban officials urged Afghans not to leave, claiming that their presence is necessary to help them rule the country and make it prosper in the future.
