Venezuela condemns false US accusations of drug trafficking

Caracas, Sept 16 (Prensa Latina) Venezuela on Thursday condemned its inclusion in the unilateral memorandum published by the United States on Wednesday on the main drug-producing or transit countries of illegal substances for the 2022 fiscal year.

In a statement from the Foreign Ministry, the Venezuelan Government condemned Washington’s ‘illegitimate practice’ of ‘intending to become the supranational police of sovereign and independent states.’

According to the statement by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, this action violates fundamental public international law rights, such as mutual sovereign respect, political independence, legal equality and non-intervention in internal affairs.

Venezuela questioned the fact that Colombia, considered one of the main allies of the US Government in world geopolitics, is the world’s leading producer of cocaine, and described Washington’s policy on the control of the laundering of drug trafficking money as false.

The Venezuelan Government ratified its full compliance with the provisions of international conventions on the control of psychotropic substances and narcotic drugs.

It also recalled that the United Nations acknowledges that Venezuela is a country free of illegal crops, thanks to the permanent work by security forces, preventive policies and the willingness to coordinate cooperation, based on the principles of sovereignty and multilateralism.

Venezuela condemned the politicization of the fight against drug trafficking and urged the international community to address it in an ethical and responsible way and, at all cost, prevent it from becoming an instrument to favor operations of extraterritorial control and interventions in sovereign States.
