Covid-19 vaccination for minors in Cuba highlighted in Sri Lanka

Colombo, Sep 7 (Prensa Latina) Cuba became the first country in the world to immunize children aged two years and older against Covid-19 with its own vaccines, Ceylon Today reported in Sri Lanka on Tuesday.

Cuba, with 11.2 million inhabitants, intends to inoculate all its minors before reopening schools that have been closed since March 2020, the newspaper stated.

The new school year began on Monday from home through televised classes, the publication added.

After the clinical trials on minors was completed with the Cuban vaccines Abdala (CIGB-66) and Soberana 02, Cuba kicked off on Friday its inoculation campaign for children, starting with those 12 years and older.

On Monday, the distribution of vaccines began in 2-11 age group in the central Cuban province of Cienfuegos.

Other nations globally are vaccinating children from the age of 12 and some are conducting trials in younger children.

The Cuban Government announced that the schools will reopen gradually in October and November, but only after all children are vaccinated, the source stated.
