First Iranian tanker with fuel for Lebanon enters Syrian port

Tehran, Sep 2 (Prensa Latina) The first Iranian oil tanker with fuel for Lebanon entered the Syrian port of Baniyas today, according to the Mehr news agency.

On the other hand, the Lebanese daily Al-Akhbar reported that the hydrocarbons will be unloaded at a Syrian port terminal and then transferred to Syrian territory.

The latter source confirmed that two other Iranian vessels are scheduled to use the same mechanism.

The three tankers’ cargo will help the Lebanese energy system, which now offers only one or two hours of service per day, while there are long lines of cars at gas stations, where the desperation of users has reached the point of violence.

The secretary general of the Lebanese Hizbullah, Hassan Nasrallah, indicated that the coming days will show to dubious people if the shipments obtained by the Resistance contain the right fuel.

He also pointed out that the economic crisis in Lebanon was the result of a siege imposed by the United States, supported by the authorities of the nations of the Arabian Peninsula.

Previously, Iranian Foreign Ministry’s spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh warned of any measures against oil tankers, because neither the United States nor anyone else cannot stop legitimate trade between two countries.

‘We take exercising our sovereignty very seriously and everyone should know that legitimate trade is one of the basic principles of international law,’ he noted.

The operation would override oppressive anti-Iranian measures enacted by Washington, following its 2018 withdrawal from the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, or nuclear deal, sealed in 2015 by Tehran and six world powers.
