During a meeting in Vladivostok to analyze the situation and perspectives of that region, he recalled that Russia has dominated those territories for a long time ‘with the drive of our distinguished predecessors’, and in a meaningful and conscious way’, he said.
The president underlined that due to the large territories it occupies and its ‘enormous potential’, the Far East region is of great importance for Russia, as well as the Northern sea route and the Arctic territories, TASS news agency reported.
‘Our task is not only to preserve everything our predecessors did, but to expand and multiply it many times, taking into account that this territory is very promising’, he said.
Putin called attention to the various programs launched in the East, which ‘are just being developed’, he said, although he emphasized that notable progress is already being reflected.
The head of state traveled to Vladivostok to participate in the Eastern Economic Forum, which takes place in this city of the Russian Far East until September 4. The main theme of the business program is ‘New opportunities for the Far East in a changing world’.
