The Select Committee assured that the measure seeks to identify those who tried to ‘challenge, delay or interfere’ with the certification that day of President Joe Biden´s victory or otherwise try to overturn the results of the 2020 election.
The committee did not release the list of individuals targeted, but it includes former President Donald Trump, members of his family and several of his Republican allies in Congress, according to a person familiar with the confidential request who requested anonymity to discuss it.
‘The Select Committee seeks the preservation of these records as part of its examination of the violent attack on the Capitol and the broader context of efforts to delay or interfere with the peaceful transfer of power following the 2020 election,’ Chairman Bennie Thompson of Mississippi wrote in the letters to the companies.
Mr. Thompson cleared out the companies should not release the records immediately, but the Select Committee could require it in near future.
Let´s safeguard this data as part of the review of the violent attack on Capitol, which sought to prevent a peaceful transition of power in the country, Mr. Thompson wrote in a letter to companies, including AT&T, Verizon, Facebook , Twitter and TikTok.
Investigators also requested individuals’ private data from far-right and conservative platforms such as Parler, 4chan, and theDonald.win.
In June, the Select Committee started off by probing into the Jan. 6 insurrection in which hundreds of Trump´s supporters stormed the Capitol, brutally beat police officers and smashed windows and doors in order to overturn the 2020 presidential election.
