Amid the current situation, the sector focused on priority programs that have a major social and economic impact, such as tourism, food security, renewable energy sources, hydraulics, health and the biopharmaceutical and biotechnological industries, the minister told Granma daily.
One of these works are the cement factories in Santiago de Cuba (eastern Cuba) and Nuevitas, Camagüey (center); as well as the introduction of new technology in the Antillana de Acero enterprise, which are key enterprises to develop other projects, due to their involvement in the production of construction materials.
Mesa also highlighted the works related to food sovereignty and especially the rice program, for which four drying plants were finished last year, and they are currently working on the completion of the technological assembly of 14.
The construction of ponds for the development of aquaculture in several parts of the country, the recovery of silos to store food and the renovation of the premises of the Sierra Maestra Science, Technology and Innovation enterprise are other actions undertaken amid difficult circumstances.
The minister commented that the Covid-19 pandemic prompted them to urgently undertake the repair and recovery of hospital infrastructures and of other places that have been necessary due to the demand of isolation capacities for suspected patients and those who have had direct contact with infected people.
