Iran ratifies its adherence to nuclear agreement

Tehran, Aug 18 (Prensa Latina) Iran ratified today its adherence to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) or nuclear agreement, while all its activities in this sector are known to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA).

The spokesman for the Iranian Foreign Ministry, Saeed Khatibzadeh, clarified that the corrective measures are in response to violations by the United States, which abandoned the pact and reimposed sanctions on the Islamic Republic.

Washington disrespected UN Security Council Resolution 2231, which the JCPOA protects, while the rest of the signatories failed to comply with the stipulations, he pointed out. It is obvious, he said, that Iran will continue with its peaceful nuclear program to meet its needs.

However, if the other parties return and adhere to the multilateral agreement, he added, the Islamic Republic will reverse its decisions.

Khatibzadeh’s statements are a response to an IAEA report related to Iran’s enrichment of uranium up to 60 percent purity.

Faced with the illegal American withdrawal from JCPOA in May 2018 and the implementation of its so-called maximum pressure policy consisting of establishing an encirclement against the Persian nation, Iran reduced its nuclear commitments.

Last January, Iranian scientists began injecting gas into centrifuges at the Fordo nuclear plant in central Iran, which re-enriched uranium to 20 percent and are capable of raising that percentage to 40, 60 or 90.
