Meteorologist Rudoplh Victor warned that large storm cells are heading towards the South and Grande-Anse departments, two of the most affected by the earthquake and where at least 1,173 deaths were recorded.

‘Grace’s circulation center, possibly the best defined during the past 48 hours, is currently in the Barahona peninsula and should be near or over the Cayes region tonight,’ he warned on social media.

At 14:00 local time, the depression was 115 kilometers southeast of Port-au-Prince, with maximum sustained winds of 55 kilometers per hour, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The center of the storm is expected to cross the South Department this evening, near the Tiburon peninsula at a speed of 19 kilometers per hour, while accumulated rainfalls could reach 254 millimeters with isolated maximum totals of 380 millimeters.

Those heavy rainfalls could produce flash floods and landslides, the agency’s experts warned.

Grace Storm will affect Haiti two days after the earthquake originated 12 kilometers from Saint Louis du Sud, at a depth of 10 kilometers, and while the work of rescuers has not concluded yet.

Authorities admitted that the meteorological phenomenon may complicate the rescue work, although they assured that they will remain in the damaged areas.
