According to Mexico´s Secretariat of Finance and Public Credit (SHCP), the domestic debt has went up nearly to $1,9 trillion since December 2018.
As a result, the most recent data showed that the public debt stood at over $12 trillion (more than $603 billion), equivalent to 47.9% of the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
Thus, after 30 months of the current administration, national debt grew 7.15%, a figure lower than in the period of the three previous six-year terms.
Under the Vicente Fox administration, it was reported an over $2 trillion national debt in December 2000, and 30 months later the figure doubled.
Regarding the Felipe Calderón administration, the historical balance of the public sector jumped to 19.22%, and under Enrique Peña Nieto the figure reached $403 billion (25.28%).
