In his regular press briefing on television, Dr.Francisco Duran, national director of Epidemiology at MINSAP, noted that 19 of the new contagions were imported, while the rest were autochthonous infections, for a total of 491,904 cases in the country since the outbreak of the disease in March 2020.
The death toll rose to 3,757, he said.
Of the new cases, 4.7 percent were asymptomatic patients, so that since the beginning of the pandemic, the country has accumulated 111,008 positive cases without symptoms.
Dr. Duran noted that the 1,473 contagions in pediatric patients (under 18 years of age), including 127 children under one year old, 56 of whom were less than six months old, was worrying.
Cienfuegos province ranks first among the territories most affected by the disease, with 1,630 cases in the last 24 hours, followed by Havana with 1,306 and Holguin with 729.
Cuba shows an incidence rate of 1,190 positive cases per 100,000 inhabitants in the last 15 days.
During the day, 9,432 patients were discharged from hospitals nationwide, so 444,019 people have recovered from the disease.
Referring to the progress of the immunization program with the vaccine candidates, Dr. Duran noted that 11,100,829 people have received at least one dose of the vaccines, as part of clinical trials, intervention studies and health interventio.
