Progressive forces prevent anti-Cuba maneuver in Paraguay

Asuncion, Jul 30 (Prensa Latina) Progressive forces in Paraguay prevented the Senate from debating a resolution against Cuba, whose reasons they considered wrong and violates international law, social media highlighted on Friday.

A few days ago, the Paraguayan political right wing tried to vote on a Senate’s petition to the United Nations for a military intervention in Cuba.

The request was based on the Cuban Government’s alleged repression against protests on July 11, as part of an international smear campaign repeatedly denounced by Havana.

The progressive Guazu Front (FG)and the Authentic Radical Liberal Party (PLRA, in Spanish) rejected the initiative, as they considered that it ignores Cuba’s reality.

FG Senator Carlos Filizzola stated at the legislative body that the proposal had a clear interventionist intention and showed no respect for the Cuban people’s self-determination.

Filizzola pointed out that Washington’s unilateral policy on Cuba, rejected by the overwhelming majority of the international community, is the main cause of the crisis in Cuba, and not the government’s performance, as those who support the July 11 actions pretend to show.
