The forum, which was organized by the Cuban Embassy in Angola, pondered the historic significance of the attacks on the Moncada and Carlos Manuel de Cespedes barracks on July 26, 1953, as part of the popular uprising that made possible the triumph of the Cuban revolution of January 1, 1959.
A number of commemorative events took place in several Angolan provinces, with the participation of Cuban diplomats and professionals of the spheres of health care, education, construction and others, linked to bilateral cooperation.
In the words of Rafael Enrique Santaelena, one of the heads of Cuba’s collaboration with Angola, defending the Cuban Revolution as a ‘bastion of socialism’ is ‘the greatest service we can make to humanity’.
João Ernesto dos Santos, Minister of National Defense and Homeland Veterans, sent a congratulatory message to his Cuban counterpart Alvaro Lopez Miera on the occasion of July 26.
The message reaffirms the wish to strengthen and consolidate cooperation with Cuba’s Defense Ministry by way of exchanging experiences regarding formation and training of personnel to meet the current and future challenges.
