According to Juan Carlos Anzardo, head of protected crops at the Ministry of Agriculture, this producer, from the Banao area, gets the best chili pepper of this variety in the open in the country, a unique experience in the territory of Sancti Spiritus.
He also commented that up to now the yellow Habanero Chili pepper species has been harvested indoors in La Quinta farming unit, in Sancti Spíritus, and in Valle de Caonao venture, in Yaguajay.
Pérez has completed three shipments of high-quality red Habanero Chili pepper through Frutas Selecta Company to Canada, a very demanding market in terms of sanitary requirements, he said.
He is currently looking for new clients in the domestic market such as Labiofam and some local industries or the non-state sector that can process and offer it in the national market.
The secret to achieve good harvest and quality in farming this species of chili, he indicated, lies in complying with the sowing in September, giving the required attention and starting the harvest in November.
He also expressed his satisfaction on the support received to diversify his productions and reach the international market, showing that farmers can also contribute to the national economy, he said.
