UN concerned about demolition of Palestinian houses in West Bank

United Nations, Jul 9 (Prensa Latina) UN Secretary-General (UNSG) António Guterres is currently deeply concerned about the demolition of Palestinian houses in the Bedouin community of Humsa Al-Baqi'a, in the West Bank, UNSG spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, said.

For this reason, Dujarric doubled down on calling Israeli authorities to put an end to the demolitions and seizures of Palestinian properties in the occupied West Bank.

‘Such actions are contrary to international law and could undermine the chances for the establishment of a viable, contiguous Palestinian state,’ Dujarric added.

On Wednesday, in the Jordan Valley, representatives of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), non-governmental organizations and UN member states tried to access to the community of Humsa Al-Baqi’a, but unfortunately Israeli military declined their access while demolitions were rolling out, she said.

According to press reports, Israel demolished 26 Palestinian houses in the West Bank and East Jerusalem from June 15 to 29, while ordering the eviction of 100 other houses in the town of Silwan, located on the outskirts of the Old City of Jerusalem.

OCHA, on the other hand, pointed out that the demolition work displaced a great number of Palestinian families and affected over 1,200 people.
