U.S. to dialogue with Russia on ransomware menace

Washington, Jul 7 (Prensa Latina) The United States government on Tuesday announced that senior US officials will meet their Russian counterparts next week to discuss the ransomware menace.

According to the White House Spokeswoman Jen Psaki, Russian hackers are responsible for recently cybercrimes against US companies and even whether Russia is not directly involved, it should take over.

In addition, she noted that President Joe Biden will meet Wednesday with representatives of various federal agencies in light of concerns about biggest ransomware attacks in recent weeks.

Biden called officials from the Departments of State, Justice, National Security and members of the intelligence community to discuss how to counter cyberattacks.

According to Psaki, this is has been a recently important issue for President Biden after increased ransomware menaces such as the one occurred against US firm Kaseya, an IT software management provider headquartered in Miami, Florida.

Psaki noted that Wednesday’s meeting will take place after Biden asked to review and propose ways to better interact with the private sector to deal with ransomware attacks.

One of the most recent ransomware attacks occurred past May against Colonial company’s network, supplier of 45% of fuel from US east coast, which was forced to shut down for several days.
