Odalys Caridad Goicochea Cardosa, general director for Environment of the Ministry of Science, Technology and Environment (Citma), told Prensa Latina that the event, held in the framework of the 13th International Convention on the Environment, will provide a single health approach on the ecosystems and Man.

Goicochea Cardosa explained that the challenges imposed by the environmental, health and economic crisis require not only defining and establishing policies, but also measuring their efficiency and effectiveness in relation to sustainable development and the quality of people’s life. Regarding environmental law, the process linked to the approval of the Policy to Improve the Environmental System will continue, which has among its main guidelines the reinforcement and strengthening of Cuba’s legal framework, she said.

‘We are talking about the entire update of the environmental law provided for in the legislative schedule, with changes in the ecosystem approach that requires seeing the resource in all its interrelation with the environment and elements related to waste, with special attention to single-use plastics and hazardous waste,’ she added.

Likewise, the meeting will address the relationship between this regulation and the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and with other macro-programs such as science and innovation, directed by Citma, for infrastructure and territorial development.

In this regard, the specialist announced a conference organized by the Ministry of Economy and Planning on how this project of natural resources and environment is inserted in the very sustainable development that Cuba aspires.
